Shopify has long been a popular eCommerce platform for anyone looking to sell online, but did you know it’s just as awesome to be working behind the scenes? Looking on any social media platform that details people’s experience working for Shopify, it is clear to see that the experience is one to be excited about. Well, it just got even more exciting, because Shopify has just announced Welcome Back — a program that seeks to re-introduce Software Developers to working in tech who have taken a leave of absence from the field and are ready to dive back in. Here are all the details we know so far.

“Choosing to return back to work after an extended period of time can be daunting — and in an industry as fast-paced as technology, that feeling can be intensified.”

The team over at Shopify are well aware of how intimidating it can be to return to work after a long time off, especially in the incredibly fast paced world of tech. With new libraries and frameworks out seemingly each week, it’s hard for just about anyone to keep up with it all. With the Welcome Back program, Shopify will bring you on to their team for a paid, 3 month program, equipped to refresh your development skills through a series of training methods designed to get you feeling confident and comfortable to take on your career after an extended break. You can be sure you’re learning from the best of the best too, with Shopify’s own Engineering and Learning Development teams supporting you the whole way through.

“Welcome Back also rebuilds context gathering, cross-team communication, and problem identification muscles”

In addition to technical development, Welcome Back also rebuilds skills such as collaboration, problem solving, context gathering, and more, to help you re-enter the workforce with nothing but confidence and an excitement to get started.

The program itself will consist of training you in both Ruby and Rails, teaching the foundations of build and deployment pipelines at Shopify as well as the various development tools utilized by the company, and you will have the opportunity to get an in-depth understanding of what kind of challenges Shopify faces each day and how they problem solve to overcome them. If this is something you are interested in pursuing, check out the requirements below to make sure you qualify for this life-changing program.

“love of software and a curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things”

You must have a strong foundation in OO principles and fluency in a minimum of one OO language. Shopify won’t refuse you if you’re a bit rusty though — you’ll get a chance to dive in and refresh your skills during the program. Lastly, you must have a love for Software Development and an eagerness to learn new things.
