Holly e-Sprite scanned the Earth simulation and confirmed my worst fears. Amun-Ra had been hacking into my code. She couldn’t identify the exact lines used in the attack, but Ra had clearly injected a virus that withered all the crops in the region spanning the Levant, Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula.

Of course, Ra’s Egyptians were prepared for this. They’d been keeping reserves of excess grain for seven simulation years. As word of this got out, the AI’s of the other Game of Idols teams had no choice but to cower to Ra for sanctuary. Those AI’s became Egypt’s slaves, and their names were added to Amun-Ra’s Book of Life account.

“You’re not going to get away with this, Ra!” I shouted into my halo.

“‘You’re not going to get away with this?’” he shouted back. “Can you be any more derivative, Godfrey?”

“My work may be derivative, but at least I program my own stuff! You’re the one who steals!”
