Be Strong and Immovable: In a World That Tries to Break You Down

A Biblical Perspective on Finding Strength, Courage, and Faithfulness in the Midst of Life’s Challenges

The Bible verse 1 Corinthians 15:58a says, “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable.”

This verse is part of a larger passage that talks about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope of eternal life for those who believe in him.

The apostle Paul, who wrote this letter to the church in Corinth, wanted to encourage them to remain faithful and steadfast in their faith, despite the difficulties and opposition they faced.

What does it mean to be strong and immovable? It means to have the strength and courage that comes from God, not from ourselves.

It means to trust in his promises and power, not in our own abilities or circumstances. It means to stand firm on his truth and grace, not on our own opinions or feelings.

It means to resist the temptations and pressures of the world, not to conform or compromise. It means to endure the trials and hardships of life, not to give up or lose heart.

Why do we need to be strong and immovable? Because life tries to throw its destabilising challenges at us.

We live in a fallen world that is full of sin, evil, suffering, and death. We face many enemies that want to destroy our faith and joy, such as the devil, the world, and our own flesh.

We encounter many obstacles that hinder our growth and service, such as doubts, fears, distractions, and discouragements.

We experience many changes that affect our stability and security, such as losses, transitions, and uncertainties.

How can we be strong and immovable? By remembering that we are not alone, the Lord is with us and therefore we can stand firm.

He is our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in trouble. He is our rock and fortress, our deliverer and shield.

He is our shepherd and guide, our provider and protector. He is our father and friend, our comforter and counselor.

He gives us his Spirit, his Word, his grace, his peace, his hope, his love.

In the face of the storms of life, be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid or dismayed. Do not be shaken or moved.

Do not be weary or faint. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Be immovable in your faith and in your obedience.

Be faithful until the end. For God is faithful. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will complete the good work he began in you. He will give you the victory through Jesus Christ.
