Chrome 56 Is Out

Chrome 56 was released yesterday, and with it comes two important things you should know:

  1. Page reloads are now 28 percent faster and result in 60 percent less validation requests.
  2. If your site is not secure (HTTPS), and contains login, registration, or payment forms, they will mark your site as “Not Secure”:

Eventually, all non secure web pages will display this, so you might as well go ahead and upgrade your server to HTTPS now.

Security VS Performance

In the latest episode of The O’Reilly Radar Podcast, Sonia and Sabrina Burney discuss how to provide a secure and fast customer experience. Here’s a recap of the topics discussed:

  • Using HTTP/2 and Service workers allows you to utilize performance gains while at the same time improve your security.
  • How Service Workers work, how they can be utilized securely, and how they can be used to prioritize the loading of 3rd party content.
  • Work backwards to better understand and learn about security. Look at security solutions that already exist today, get to know the type of attack factors that already exist, and go from there.
