Callan Valentine’s Roses
A GoFundMe Studios Original Production
“All women should be appreciated and loved.”
Callan Valentine may only be 18, but he knows how disheartening Valentine’s Day can be if you feel like everyone is celebrating but you.
So this year, he decided to make every girl at his school feel special. All it took? A few football buddies, 750 roses, and a 5am wakeup call…
Callan is the captain of his high school football team, and he decided to recruit his fellow teammates to help with a Valentine’s Day surprise. The goal? To hand deliver every girl in their school her very own rose.
Even small gestures can add up on a large scale, so Callan started a GoFundMe to defray the cost of the roses and gather support from his community. In a few months, he raised enough money for his Valentine’s Day mission.
The night before Valentine’s Day, Callan and his teammates gathered together to prune and de-thorn every single stem.
Altogether, they prepped 750 roses — one for every girl and female staff member at their high school.
With every rose tied with a pink ribbon and placed in a bucket of water to keep fresh, the team loaded up Callan’s car and went home to rest up before the early morning ahead.
On Valentine’s Day morning, Callan woke up at 5am to have breakfast with his mom, get ready, and hit the road to make some early deliveries.
With parents’ help, Callan surprised girls at their homes with roses as they got ready. Then, he made his way to school, where his friends were waiting to help him pass out the remaining flowers.
The girls at Callan’s school were touched by his and his friends’ thoughtfulness: “For a guy to think of this idea to give [a rose] to every girl, it’s incredible.” They couldn’t help but smile.
Callan was grateful that he could brighten Valentine’s Day for the girls at his high school. And above all, Callan hopes that his story inspires others to spread kindness in their communities:
“I hope that by doing this, some people will take my example and just start doing small acts of kindness.”
