GLOBAL MARKET OVERVIEW

Period from October 1st 2018 to September 30th 2019 — GMT close in USD

Relevant news in September:

  • French and German finance ministers declared that Facebook’s stablecoin LIBRA presented risks to consumers, financial stability and the monetary sovereignty of European States at the Helsinki euro zone meeting
  • Bruno Le Maire also announced that the European Central Bank was working on a public cryptocurrency project, making LIBRA redundant
  • The Chinese Central Bank announced that their public cryptocurrency would be similar to LIBRA and that it would be supported across major e-payment platforms such as Wechat and Alipay

  • On September 24th the markets experienced a crash bringing the global market cap from USD 259.38 bn to USD 217.64 bn on September 26th
  • In September, the highest point was at USD 276.97 bn on the 19th and the lowest was at USD 217.54 bn on the 29th

2) Elimination of crypto assets that:

  • Have less than 3 months of trading history
  • Are stable coins
  • Are subject to publicly known issues — trading or storage failures, fraud suspicions, technical flaws in the underlying technologies

3) The remaining 50 largest market capitalizations are selected for analysis

  • Best performer: ABBC — Outstanding performance this month (+136.1%) given that only 7 coins from the top 50 sample had a positive performance
  • BTC had a negative performance of -13.88% in September
  • Average performance went from -20.2% in August to -8.3% in September

  • ABBC is both the top performer (+136.1%) and the most volatile coin (194.2%) this month
  • LEO is the least volatile coin (24.0%) and made it into the FUSEKI Indices for the first time
  • Volatility is back up to 89.8% on average in September; it had dropped from 117.5% on July 31st to 77.1% on August 31st

90-day correlation to BTC

  • The average correlation to BTC skyrocketed from 0.10 in August to 0.57 in September as the BTC crash on September 24th dragged most of the market down
  • Only 4 coins were negatively correlated to BTC in September compared to 26 the previous month

  • BTC. On September 24th, BTC lost USD 1,500 in less than a day but still has contributed positively to the FUSEKI 10 Performance, as its weight was rebalanced to 2% on Monday 23rd

Positive impact:

  • XLM. Like most other large cap coins, XLM’s price dropped on September 24th but unlike the other coins, XLM experienced a strong increase from USD 0.051 on September 15th to USD 0.083 on September 18th

Negative impact:

  • HT. The August momentum goes on this month and HT had a significantly negative influence on the FUSEKI Indices once again
  • BNB. BNB was the worst contributor in the FUSEKI 10 and 3rd worst in the FUSEKI 10 Liquidity and the FUSEKI 10 Performance
  • BCH. BCH, like most other large market cap coins suffered from the crash on September 24th and ended up as one of the worst contributors for the FUSEKI Indices

  • With the recent drop, the FUSEKI Indices are getting close to the NASDAQ and CAC40 levels
