We’re delighted that balletLORENT, a participant of our Become Green Together programme, was awarded the Best Newcomer 2023 award from Investors in the Environment.

balletLORENT is the North East England’s leading Dance Theatre company. Established in 1993 by Liv Lorent, in the past thirty years balletLORENT has won numerous awards, collaborated internationally, and worked with artists including Carol Ann Duffy. The company became a registered charity in 2015, and its work includes providing education and working with young people and families, including through its Youth Academy.

balletLORENT joined the Become Green Together programme in Autumn 2022 to access support and resources to make their organisation more environmentally sustainable. Through the programme they tracked their carbon emissions through SmartCarbon’s dashboard and worked towards accreditation with Investors in the Environment (iiE), with the support of genee.

balletLORENT successfully achieved Silver accreditation with iiE in August 2023, demonstrating that sustainability isn’t just for environmental charities, but that arts organisations can take effective climate action as well.

This was further demonstrated when balletLORENT won iiE’s Best Newcomer award 2023, alongside CIPD and Swiftool Precision Engineering.

The Investors in the Environment Awards celebrate organisations across the UK, and across all sectors, for their efforts in making positive changes to combat climate change and reduce waste. In 2023, iiE members together saved over eight thousand tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions.

Everyone at balletLORENT is thrilled to have won Best Newcomer at the 2023 Investors in the Environment Awards. We all worked extremely hard to attain Silver Accreditation earlier in the year, so the extra recognition for everyone’s efforts is lovely.

Our journey as part of Become Green Together has been a pleasure… and the support from VONNE, iiE and SmartCarbon has been invaluable. We can’t thank them enough, and hope to take everything we have learned into the future, and build it into enhancing the sustainability of our base at John Marley Centre.

We’re delighted with balletLORENT’s achievement, and are pleased to have been able to support them in their efforts. We’re also extremely pleased that participants Meadow Well Connected and Healthworks were shortlisted for this award, and congratulate them on their environmental achievements.

We’re thrilled at the successes of all of our participants who have received accreditation with Investors in the Environment, and are already making significant changes to become environmentally sustainable and plan for the future.

Going Green Together is a project from VONNE, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and County Durham Community Foundation. You can find out more about the project through our website.
