As part of Going Green Together’s Think Green Together programme, we hold monthly online peer support sessions. These informal discussions allow VCSE organisations in the North East and Cumbria to share news and opportunities, and discuss challenges they are facing, regarding their journeys to become more environmentally sustainable. You can register for future sessions at our Meet Up page.

The opportunities and events we discussed through Going Green Together this month were:

  • Applications re-opening for Become Green Together! Applications to this training cohort close on the 30th November. Apply today.
  • Our next Climate and Carbon Literacy course runs on Monday the 21st and 28th November.
  • Bursaries are now available to cover the cost of training. Email hello@goinggreentogether.org to discuss our bursary options.
  • We are holding a focus event Become Green Together in Cumbria to share how we can support Cumbrian voluntary and community organisations through our support and training programmes.

We then moved on to discuss the kind of support organisations would like to receive in becoming more sustainable and taking part in climate action. We discussed how difficult it can be to get the messaging right about the climate emergency and to counteract unhelpful narratives, and discussed ACT Climate Labs as a resource for improving our communications around this area.

We also discussed the challenges around knowing what the best course of action is in reducing our carbon footprint. One example was knowing how to reduce your digital carbon footprint, and what the impact of online activity versus in-person activity is. Going Green Together has produced a document in our resources page with guidelines to about digital carbon footprints which is free to download.

Our next peer support meet-up will be held on Wednesday the 7th December, and we hope to see you there!
