We’ve partnered with Tees Valley Community Foundation to create a bursary scheme for Become Green Together.

Tees Valley Community Foundation has provided funding to help voluntary, community, and social enterprises in the Tees Valley to take part in the Become Green Together programme.

Become Green Together is part of the wider Going Green Together project, helping the VCSE sector in the North East and Cumbria to learn more about the climate emergency and how to take action, through reducing their carbon emissions and taking part in climate action.

Become Green Together supports organisations over a 12-month period in making a practical and effective sustainability strategy, with step-by-step guidance from environmental consultants, and access to tools like a carbon footprint calculator. Participants get access to a peer support network, and gain nationally recognised accreditation through the Investors in the Environment framework by taking part.

As a small social enterprise, our capacity to undertake the highly urgent work required to understand our Carbon Emissions and subsequently address the Climate Emergency is limited. Through participation in Become Green Together and the expert guidance and support of programme delivery partners SmartCarbon and Genee, I have been able to prioritise my tasks and make this previously daunting task feel achievable.

Alongside this, the chance to speak to peers running a broad range of businesses, roughly at the same stage as ours and with their own unique challenges, has contributed to a sense of positivity and overall optimism about the nature of the work… I urge any small business interested in accessing this opportunity to grasp it and jump on board.

The programme is heavily subsidised, with up to 75% off the cost of taking part based on the size of your organisation. Through the Tees Valley Community Foundation bursary scheme, Tees Valley organisations can get fully funded access to this programme, covering all their costs of taking part and removing financial barriers to adapt their organisation to the needs of a greener, fairer future.

If you’re interested in claiming a bursary, you can email the project coordinator Nathaniel Spain at Nathaniel.Spain@vonne.org.uk. You can read more about the opportunity on the Going Green Together website. The current window for applications closes on Wednesday 31st May. Bursaries will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis, so get in touch early to avoid disappointment.
