📣 #ECB’s Panetta said #DigitalEuro Could be Reality by 2026

👉 #EuropeanCentralBank governing council member #FabioPanetta commented that the eurozone could be using a central bank-issued digital currency by 2026.

👉 ECB has been working on a preparation phase to launch the Digital Euro. This phase will be completed in late 2023, allowing EU member countries to test the new #CBDC for the next 3 years.

👉 He added that making the #digitalcurrency legal tender and for use in #P2P payments could help promote #adoption.

👉 Estimates from many #EU officials suggest that legislation and policy focused on the launch of a digital #euro could be coming within five years.
