What is “NOYB”?

‘Non of Your Business’ (NOYB) is Austrian non-governmental organization (NGO) seeking to enforce digital rights (particularly privacy, and data protection rights) in the EU. As opposed to other European NGOs (such as the European Digital Rights organization (EDRi)) NOYB does not focus on policy but on ‘ strategic enforcement, especially in politically relevant cases’.

NOYB takes legal action predominantly on issues of private sector privacy violations (as opposed to governmental surveillance)

Founder

The founder of Max Shrems, an Austrian privacy activist and lead plaintiff on the decision that brought down Save Harbor.

Guiding principles

The guiding principles of NOYB are:

  • Real Life Effects. The main aim of NOYB is to align practices in daily life with the existing EU law, as well as to bring cases that develop the existing case law further.
  • Effectiveness & Principle of Subsidiarity. The operation was designed to ‘have the maximum real-life effect, with the resources available’.
  • European Focus. NOYB seeks to promote close cooperation and participation of existing EU national privacy initiatives, tech experts and consumer protection…
