2019 Kentucky defensive tackle Jacob Lacey has committed to Notre Dame. The 6'2 295 pound tackle has been to South Bend five times over the past year, his last visit being in mid June and the Irish have always been a high priority, especially with academics and the culture in South Bend. It was only a matter of time before he pulled the trigger and his recruitment ended today. He was originally scheduled to visit Michigan this weekend but never showed, making this an even sweeter victory. He called the Notre Dame staff last night to inform them of his intentions. Lacey holds 12 offers from Clemson, Michigan, Louisville and others.

With Lacey, you’re gonna get someone with terrific power off the ball and exceptional hand technique for a sophomore d-lineman. He’s still raw but has a massive amount of upside. The staff needed major upgrades with d-line recruiting and made Lacey a huge priority for what they wanted going forward, and they got their guy. Lacey is joining QB commit Cade McNamara in the 2019 class for the Irish. Going forward I think Irish nation should be very optimistic when it comes to what the staff is doing along the interior line. Last cycle they brought in DT Darnell Ewell and Kurt Hinish, this year’s class so far has DT Jayson Ademilola and Ja’Mion Franklin, and now Lacey gives 2019 a terrific start. Those are some very big and aggressive guys which very exciting to see for the Irish.

Lacey’s commitment wraps up an incredible week for the staff on the recruiting trail, especially for the defensive and DC Mike Elko. There’s some serious buzz around South Bend and what’s to come heading into fall camp, which begins on Tuesday. Make sure to follow Carlee North and Nathan Erbach for all recruiting and Irish updates.
