2018 California LB Jack Lamb has committed to Notre Dame. The 6'4 220 pound LB was on campus June 23 with his father and loved everything about it. Lamb is a Penn State legacy and also lives on the West Coast. Penn State and UCLA were both very high on his list but after being able to get to campus and talk to the coaches and players in South Bend, and also grow strong relationships with the current Irish commits, I think the fit for him was just unmatched by any other school. Lamb competed at the Opening Finals in Oregon just a few weeks ago, which was loaded with Irish commits. The most recent commit, LB Shayne Simon, was also there and word is they got along really well. Being able to gel well on the field during the tournament, I think, pretty much solidify his decision to join the Irish class in the end. Also, his father seemed to have the Irish above the rest since the visit to South Bend, from everything he’s said leading up to the commitment, so that was another huge reason his decision ended up in favor of Notre Dame. Make sure to read his fathers interview with Irish Sports Daily (https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/3123/lamb-encouraged-to-be-selfish-for-once) for more insight on the newest commit and his family background. Lamb holds 23 offers from UCLA, Penn State, Oklahoma, and others.

Where does Lamb fit?

Jack Lamb is a extremely good athlete, especially for being 6'4 220. Adding him to the group of linebackers on the roster now just adds much needed athleticism to the defense. He has great instincts, moves very well, and has a ton of range. One of the biggest positives with Lamb is that he can drop in coverage. Not many linebackers his size can do that. I think Lamb would fit best at outside linebacker mainly because of his ability to contain the outside with his range and lateral movement but also because he could easily come off the edge on a blitz and get to the quarterback. In all honesty though, he can play any LB position and be productive. This is just a massive get for the Irish defense.

Notre Dame now has 6'4 Jack Lamb, 6'3 Shayne Simon, 6'3 Matthew Bauer, and 6'3 Ovie Oghoufo at the LB position in this class. With the lack of height, which seems to be a prioirty for the coaches, and depth after this year on the current roster, the staff has done an outstanding job so far with these recruits. All of the linebackers fit perfectly with what defensive coordinator Mike Elko wants to bring to the Irish defense, along with how linebacker coach Clark Lea uses his guys. The Irish now have 15 commits and are in a great position at landing another top target in the coming weeks. Make sure to follow Carlee North and Nathan Erbach for all things on recruiting.
