The ongoing story of Sea of Thieves continues in the latest Adventure, a time limited monthly event that progresses the game’s story. From April 21st to May 12th, the third Adventure will take place titled The Shrouded Deep. This Guide walks pirates through everything they need to know to complete the Adventure and earn its rewards!

How do ‘Adventures’ Work?

  • Adventures last ~2–3 weeks, and arrive roughly once per month. You can access an ‘Adventures Tab’ on the inventory menu to track current and upcoming Adventures
  • Completing each ‘Adventure’ unlocks an exclusive cosmetic, while completing every Deed in the Adventure tab earns an exclusive Title
  • ‘Adventures’ begin by talking to a particular NPC and selecting “BEGIN ADVENTURE”. As chapters of the quest are completed, beginning a subsequent chapter may require a player to talk to another NPC and select “CONTINUE ADVENTURE” or finally “COMPLETE ADVENTURE”

Cinematic Trailer

On the Sea of Thieves Youtube, each Adventure gets its own teaser trailer featuring a short introduction to the latest story. Here’s the trailer for The Shrouded Deep:

Chapter 1- Setting Sail

To begin your Adventure, you’ll need to talk to Larinna outside the Outpost Tavern. Selecting her dialogue option BEGIN ADVENTURE will initiate the first cutscene, and her Note will instruct you to meet Belle and Merrick at the map coordinate M12. This is directly East of the Reaper’s Hideout, and directly South of Shipwreck Bay.

NOTE: You cannot begin if a TALL TALE is active, but you can do a regular voyage while on the Adventure. You also cannot access Larinna’s Black Market shop while on an Adventure. The Adventure can be cancelled by vote from the Voyage Table

As you approach this location, you’ll discover a notable shipwreck crashed against the rocks… it’s Merrick’s ship The Killer Whale, and Merrick and Belle are aboard.

Talking to Merrick will offer a small bite more context about the task at hand, while talking to Belle will begin the second chapter. Belle will explain what truly needs to be done on this epic adventure… select CONTINUE ADVENTURE for the next step of the voyage…

Chapter Two- Defeating a Megalodon

The ultimate Goal of this Adventure is to summon the Shrouded Ghost Megalodon at the Killer Whale ship and defeat it in battle. Before this can even be done, a ritual must be prepared on your server in Sea of Thieves. If the ritual has been prepared, a beacon of blue-green light will emanate from The Killer Whale ship at M12, and you can skip to Chapter 3 of this guide. Otherwise, read on for the important details on setting up the ritual.

To set-up the Shrouded Ghost Summoning Ritual on your Sea of Thieves server, the ritual table on Merrick’s Killer Whale Ship must be filled with enchanted “Effigies” of each of the other four Megalodon species. When you talk to Belle, you can request to seek out any one of these four Megalodon species; the Hungering One, the ShadowMaw, the Ancient Terror, or the Crested Queen. Doing so will send you on a journey to defeat that Megalodon, capture its soul in an enchanted Effigy, and return it to the ritual table.

NOTE: To Complete the Adventure, it is only necessary that Any Crew on your server has defeated each of the four Megalodons- whether that is YOUR crew alone, or multiple crews working together. Before embarking to defeat a specific Megalodon, check the black metal plates on the ritual Table to see if any glowing shark Effigies have already been defeated and inserted into the ritual: the Hungering One is Blue, the Shadowmaw is Black, the Ancient Terror is Yellow, and the Crested Queen is Pink. Choose a Megalodon from Belle to hunt down that has not yet been captured for the Ritual.

You and other crews on the server can split the work of defeating the four total Megalodons that are needed to prepare this ritual.

Once you talk to Belle and choose a Megalodon to hunt down, you will receive several important things in your Quest inventory to help you to Summon this Megalodon.

  1. Quest Instructions, explaining to Fire the Summoning Flare from a cannon at a specific spot on a particular island in order to summon the Megalodon, and then upon defeating it, to use the Effigy to bind its Soul.
  2. A Map of a particular island, with a red circle showing the location of the cannon from which you will need to fire the Summoning Flare in order to summon this Megalodon
  3. A Summoning Flare, which can only be fired from the above noted island’s Cannon. Once fired, this will summon the Megalodon that you need to defeat.
  4. A Shark Effigy, which must be used once the Megalodon is defeated to capture its soul and return it to Belle’s Ritual Table.

As the above items make clear, you’ll need to travel to a particular island, fire the summoning flare out of a particular cannon on that island, defeat the Megalodon that arrives nearby, and finally, use the Effigy to capture the defeated “Soul” of the Megalodon, which you’ll find under the water near where the beast was defeated.

Once this process is completed, you can take the soul of this particular Megalodon back to the Killer Whale ship at M12 and add it to the Ritual Table. Before you can move on to Chapter 3, one soul of EACH of these four Megalodons (Hungering One, ShadowMaw, Ancient Terror, Crested Queen) must be added to the ritual table in the above manner. You can split this work with other crews if they are around, otherwise you will need to talk to Belle again and choose each Megalodon one-by-one and repeat the above process. Once all four have been defeated, you can begin Chapter 3 of the Adventure.

Chapter Three- The Shrouded Ghost

Once the process above has been completed and the Ritual Table on the Killer Whale contains an enchanted Effigy of each of the four Megalodons (Hungering One, ShadowMaw, Ancient Terror, Crested Queen), now you are prepared to summon and defeat the Shrouded Ghost.

Unfortunately, there is one final catch to completing this process- to summon the Shrouded Ghost, you must play the “Summon the Megalodon” Shanty on any instrument along with FIVE total players. By definition, this will require at least two crews of pirates to meet at Merrick’s ship and perform the ritual together.

Once Five players are playing the shanty in unison, continue playing while the ritual table gets charged up. Eventually, the Shrouded Ghost will arrive, initiating an epic battle to defeat this ancient beast. Captain Flameheart’s forces will even get involved, sending phantom Ghost Ships to interfere in the battle.

You can use your own ship’s cannons, along with the Killer Whale’s cannons, in order to defeat the Meg and Flameheart’s phantom forces. You’ll need to defeat waves of ships in order to bring the shark back into the fray, as it will flee to “recover” during each wave, and there will be a final wave with grander music so you know you are near the end. Once the shark is defeated, you will have finished the Adventure and can talk to Belle to receive the Ending. Even if you show up late to the battle, as long as you deal at least some damage to the Shrouded Ghost, you should be able to finish the Adventure.

Rewards and Deeds

There are two rewards available to earn for the duration of this event:

  • Hunter’s Beloved Figurehead- Complete the Adventure to earn this Cosmetic
  • “Summoner of Myths” Title- Complete ALL Deeds in the Adventure to earn this Title.

On the Adventure Tab, you’ll be able to scroll through Deeds for the Adventure that encourage you to repeat the event. Completing these Deeds will earn Season Renown, and completing all of them is required to get the time limited Title. These deeds are:

  • Add a Hungering One Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table
  • Add a Crested Queen Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table
  • Add a Shadowmaw Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table
  • Add an Ancient Terror Effigy to Belle’s Ritual Table
  • Take Part in the Shrouded Ghost summoning ritual
  • Defeat the summoned Shrouded Ghost

Note: Although you can cooperate with other crews, splitting up the work of defeating each Megalodon, in order to earn the Title you will need to defeat EACH Megalodon yourself. Belle will allow you to hunt down any Megalodon, even if another crew on your server has already captured their soul!

Note: To complete the Adventure and earn the Hunter’s Beloved Figurehead, you only need to help defeat the Shrouded Ghost that is summoned by contributing at least some damage to it during the battle. However, there is a deed to Take part in Summoning the Shrouded Ghost, which requires your crew to be involved in playing the collective Shanty. If you care about the Title, you’ll need to be involved in this step.

Finally, it’s important to note that fighting Megalodons during this Adventure is different for Commendations than fighting normal Megalodons from random encounters. Megalodons you defeat during this Adventure, including the Shrouded Ghost, will Not count towards existing commendations for defeating Megalodons. Those commendations reward players for defeating Megs after randomly generated encounters, not the summoned encounters of this Adventure.

And that’s it for the latest Sea of Thieves Adventure! Once you’ve completed this story, Pirate Legends will want to take part in the latest Pirate Legend Voyage, which continues directly on from this Adventure- check out our Guide to the Legend of the Veil Voyage for more Information.
