The Burning Blade World Encounter

Flameheart seeks to lay siege to the Seas with his recently arisen armada of Ghost Ships led by his very own Burning Blade. This new world event, the Battle of the Burning Blade, is signified by the floating head of Flameheart above an island, much like the Skull Cloud or the Ship Cloud, and is intended to be a permanent addition to the game past Haunted Shores

Check out our detailed Guide to the Burning Blade Ghost Ship Battle to learn about these new enemies, how to defeat the Burning Blade, and what rewards you’ll get along the way!

Ghost Ship Voyages

The Ghost Ships aren’t just restricted to Flameheart’s fleet. The Order of Souls are offering Voyages to pirates who are over level 25 with the Order of Souls to combat their ghoulish presence, sending you to an island to defeat a fleet of these new enemies

Non-Verbal and Radial Menu Updates

Non-verbal options have been vastly expanded upon to allow for all pirates to communicate effectively with their crewmates and others without the use of voice or text.

Changes include:

  • Wider range of non-verbal commands that are across several easy to access pages
  • By default, the Non-Verbal Radial is now mapped to RB on controller/Q on Keyboard, replacing the Quest Radial
  • The Quest Radial is now a sub-option in the Equipment Radial by default (accessed by E/LB)
  • The Equipment and Non-Verbal Commands Sub-Radials can be rebound to other keys if you wish
  • The Cannonball Radial has static slots for Chainshots, Firebombs, and Blunderbombs at Radials 2, 3 and 4 respectively, to make it easier to select these in the heat of battle
  • You can tap the text radial button to repeat the last used phrase
  • You can tap the equipment radial button to quick swap between the last equipped Quest and last equipped Tool.

Tools not Rules

Shanty Selection!

  • Shanties can be manually selected in their own radial menu now! Simply equip your instrument and then open the radial menu and choose your song. Your selection will be remembered even if you change instrument, and there’s even a “random select” option
  • 5 new songs have been added to the list of Shanties (one only appears if you are a Pirate Legend)
  • Previously unplayable Shanties are now available to be played!

Ghost Cannonballs

  • Three new types of cannonballs are introduced and can only be earned by defeating the Burning Blade World Encounter; the Phantom Cannonball, the Flaming Phantom Cannonball, and the Wraith Cannonball
  • The Phantom and Flaming Phantom Cannonballs are functionally the same as a regular cannonball and a firebomb, respectively
  • The Wraith Cannonball will rock a ship upon impact, and cause at least three large holes

What’s in Stores?

  • New cosmetics available in the Pirate Emporium, including the State of Decay themed “Blighted Ship Set” and new Golden Curse Pets
  • New items in Duke’s Black Market, discounted until the next update
  • Duke’s Black Market highlights new rewards for completing Ghost Ship battles (not time limited), and he has a time limited free Ghost Ship Voyage to let all players join the fight

Check out our June Shopper’s Guide for a more detailed list of cosmetics

Smoother Sailing

  • Improvements continue to be made to Hit-Registration
  • Opening crates now has a different sound to opening a barrel
  • Extra Emissary Flags will not appear if a ship sinks after migrating
  • Further work to the “Let Games Read To Me” feature
