Duke’s Black Market and the Pirate Emporium

Duke the Bilge Rat has been busy making connections, and with those connections he has been able to set up shop selling re-imagined versions of past time-limited cosmetics. And alongside Duke’s new shop, the Pirate Emporium has opened up and accepts only the new premium currency Ancient Coins. This shop sells exclusive cosmetics, new emotes, and the long requested addition of PETS!

For more detailed information on these new cosmetic shops, we’ve put together a handy Shopper’s Guide for you!

Pets on Deck

This update brings with it the long awaited arrival of pets! Long promised, they are finally here to get your grubby pirate hands on (please wash them before handling the pets.) These are exclusive to the Pirate Emporium, and you can find out how to get them and more by sword-dashing your way to our Shopper’s Guide

Smuggler’s Fortune/Reaper’s Grave Voyages

As with every monthly update, we have a new limited time event to complete, which includes new voyages, commendations, titles, and cosmetic rewards.

Check out our full Guide to the event, including how to complete the new voyages and earn every commendation!

Skeleton Troubles

Skelly activity has been on the rise since the “Dark Relics” Event, with new Skelly threats making themselves known.

Emergent Skeleton Ships

These threats finally return to the game after a long hiatus. Unlike the free roaming ships you’ll see around the seas, these will rise from the depths directly alongside your boat and attack you immediately. But solo-sloopers fret not, as they’ve been balanced with the addition of…

Skeleton Sloops

Previously only found within waves of skeleton ships in the Cursed Sail cloud encounters, Skeleton Sloops will now appear throughout the seas as wandering threats as well as emergent attackers. They have a higher chance of spawning emergently for players on a Sloop or a Brigantine, but can also appear for Galleon crews. Conversely, the emergent Skeleton Galleons favour player Galleons, but there is also the rare chance of them spawning for a Sloop or a Brigantine.

Ancient Skeletons

A new ambient island encounter, the Ancient Skeletons are dark blue with a golden skull, and a coin sack slung over their back. If you encounter one emerging from the soil, they’ll quickly turn tail and run- but they are worth chasing down! The reward for taking them out is a randomized amount of Ancient Coins, the exclusive currency of the Pirate Emporium shop. Catch them before they return to the dirt and are gone for good!
This is currently the only way to earn Ancient Coins without spending real life currency

Tools not Rules

Alongside the myriad of Skeletal additions, there are a handful of other great new features coming in 2.0.7

Storage Crates

These wonderful little wooden boxes can be found washed up on beaches all around the Seas. Anything you can store in your ship you can store in these crates, this means a safe place to put your fish if you fear sinking or an easier way to transport them to the Hunter’s Call.

The Sea Dog Challenge Route

Looking for new ways to challenge the Pirates, the Sea Dogs have made additional changes to the outside of their Sea Dog’s Tavern. This parkour route is a fun way for players to test their platforming skills, and even has a bell at the top and bottom to help time your runs. Sail on over to test your mettle!

Re-Enter The Arena

The Arena has also gotten a couple much appreciated tweaks

  • Players can find their non-verbal pirate phrases have been altered to allow for more tactical decisions to be made in the heat of competition.
  • When players join a crew either in the Tavern or during a Contest a new banner will appear informing them of their team name, their colour, and iconography.
  • Optional Crossplay has been enabled this month, but only for the Arena Mode. It allows Xbox One players to set a preference to only play with other Controller-Using Xbox One players, and the game will attempt to match them by this preference. If match-making cannot find an appropriate game to join then they will be moved to mixed queues and will be alerted to such.

Smoother Sailing

The September 11th patch brings with it the following quality of life improvements and small changes;

  • Session Re-Join: When a player is kicked from their session due to crashing, a sudden exit, or network issues, there will be a window of opportunity to rejoin their game as sessions will be kept active for a short period after the last player has left. This will not be the case for anyone who voluntarily leaves the game through the Leave Game or Exit to Desktop options, or is dropped due to inactivity.
  • Gunpowder Keg and Stronghold Gunpowder Keg explosions have had their hit detection improved so that damage is correctly applied to the masts and the wheel of a Galleon. Hitting kegs at distance with ranged weapons should also cause them to detonate more reliably.
  • Explosive Damage dealt to ships has been tweaked. If your ship is hit by a keg or a volcanic rock, the damage should be dealt closer to the point of impact and it lessens the further away it gets.
  • Harpoon aiming has received some touch-ups, so grabbing those chests or barrels out at sea should be a little easier to achieve.
  • The Shores of Gold Tall Tale has had some minor tweaks. The Gold Hoarder’s room now has more chilling ambiance on arrival, and the Pirate Lord highlights aspects of the full Tall Tale: Shores of Gold campaign for a greater sense of what has been achieved on the adventure.

All spoils accounted for, Smuggler’s Fortune is the most significant update to the game in months- and this isn’t even everything! For the full official Release Notes, click here
