The Seabound Soul: A Tall Tale Adventure

The first new Tall Tale since their introduction in “Tall Tales: Shores of Gold” is finally here. You’ll be tasked with rescuing the souls of three captains lost at sea who all had run-ins with the mysterious ship The Ashen Dragon. To start this story driven adventure, find the journal on the ritual table in The Blackwyche wreckage on Shipwreck Bay.

FIRE!

Reduce your foes to ashes as a ton of new Fire mechanics have ignited the seas. Fire can now catch on ships, spreading and causing havoc- and of course you can use it as a weapon. This expansive new feature includes:

  • Campsite Building! Campsites on islands now need to be built up and manually lit
  • Firebombs! Cannonable, Throwable… things just got heated!
  • Water Barrel! A pumpable water source for putting out flames

Ashen Treasures

New emergent skeleton captain “Key Masters” are hoarding “Ashen Keys”, while emergent skeleton “Ashen Guardians” are hoarding “Ashen Chests”. Discover either one and you can cash them for doubloons… but if you manage to find both, a key can open a chest and reveal a mysterious Tome- a much more valuable Bilge Rat treasure that unlocks unique cosmetics!

This new event includes permanent new Bilge Rat Commendations (challenges you complete to earn Doubloons and Titles) and cosmetic rewards, and it coincides with time limited Voyages and Commendations that aid you in finding these Ashen Keys and Chests.

We’ve got a Complete Guide to Ashen Treasures, breaking down the permanent and time limited challenges and rewards!

Skeleton Troubles

  • Emergent Skeleton Island Captains- The maps from defeating these may still yield Ritual Skulls but they are not guaranteed anymore
  • “Ashen” Skeleton Fleet Cloud- Indicated by a glowing red cloud, “Ashen” Ship Battles pit you against waves of feistier competition- as these Skelly Ships utilize Fire Bombs! When the fleet is defeated they’re guaranteed to drop multiple Ritual Skulls and Ashen Chests
  • Roaming/Emergent Skeleton Ships- The ships you discover outside of Fleet battles also have a chance of dropping Ashen Chests
  • Defeating a Wandering Skeleton Captain and picking up a Skeleton’s Orders Voyage will now show specific iconography to differentiate it from the other Voyages.
  • The Fort of the Damned Vault Key can now be seen on the map table by every ship!
  • Gunpowder Skeletons have been slowed down just a little

Tools Not Rules

  • Ammo Crates! These randomly discoverable crates have a finite amount of ‘ammo’ you can replenish your firearms with, but most importantly can be taken along with you wherever. Rowboat? Check. The Crow’s Nest? Check. When an Ammo Crate runs out of ammo you can take it to an Ammo Chest on any ship or island to stock it back up.
  • Collector’s Chests- These now have a chance to spawn with gold inside that pirates can claim for themselves immediately, as well as other treasures.
  • Riddle Quests- Collector’s Chests are now the reward for solving Riddle Quests, offering higher value items in variable quantities.
  • Emotes- The Emote Radial has been expanded to multiple pages for those players buying new ones from the Emporium
  • Buckets- now have a secondary “douse yourself” function- this is great for using water to put out fires, but you can of course do it with vomit as well. You can also now bucket up superheated water from around volcanoes, and it remains superheated when you dump it- new offensive weapon!

Re-Enter the Arena

  • New Commendations- These act like a new tier of “prestige” goals, where you complete Arena tasks while using the Glorious Sea Dog cosmetics that were locked behind previous commendations. Doing so will earn you access to the new “Triumphant Sea Dog” cosmetics. The Glorious set has also been completed!
  • Players can now customize parts of their ships before a Contest. The Hull, Sails, Flag and Figurehead cannot be changed, but Wheel, Capstan and Cannon can! Look in the chest next to the Shipwright to alter the appearance of your ship
  • Maps will now be more limited, with three at a time maximum, to force more combat and tighter matches. Each map will have less X’s as well (with a small chance of a “jackpot” of many X’s). Some spawn points have been changed to balance the fewer islands
  • Fire Bombs now automatically spawn in the ship barrels in Arena
  • Reputation and Rewards- have been increased!
  • Rival Options- After a contest, you will continue to face the same opponents unless your crew votes unanimously to Face new Rivals

Phew! That’s a boatload of content, but don’t worry, we’ve got deeper breakdowns of the big new features:
