Guide to Fate of the Morningstar Tall Tale

Tall Tales are story-based voyages in the Sea of Thieves that you can experience with your crew in the game’s shared world. They tell a narrative and involve solving puzzles, using unique mechanics, and overcoming perils.
The Fate of the Morningstar is the seventh part of the Shores of Gold saga. To start from the beginning, check out our guide to The Shroudbreaker.
This guide walks through the Fate of the Morningstar Tall Tale, detailing what to expect at each step, as well as where to find those pesky hidden Journals. This guide may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.

Completing The Fate of the Morningstar
Starting Location: The book where you can vote to begin this tale is by the Ferryman on the Ferry of the Damned
Chapter 1: The Quest Book tells you an island and location where you’ll find the Ferryman’s grave. Here you receive an Enchanted Lantern in your Quest Wheel.
Chapter 2: The Quest Book tells you which island to go to to save the lost souls, and which side they are found on. When you get there, use the Enchanted Lantern you received to track the souls. There are three souls on this island that need saving, each going off in different directions, and as you follow each path you’ll need to find a Collector’s Chest and Quest Item (the key to the chest) for each soul. If you find a path dead ends, keep looking around it for where it continues. If you see the path “jumping” off the island, it’s not a dead end- you need to follow where it goes. Find and open all three chests to release the spirits trapped within.
Final Chapter: Return to the Ferry of the Damned to complete this Tale.
Journal Locations
When a Tall Tale is active, it places journals in the world for you to discover and read. These add details to the story, and also are required to unlock the final commendation of the Tale and earn a cosmetic reward.
I don’t recommend finding journals on your first play through of a Tale, as you may have to sail out of your way and distract from the adventure and story!
