Season Ten is launching with a major new feature- GUILDS! Guilds allow players to organize themselves into “clubs” that can share in each other’s spoils while sailing under their united banners!

We’ve got a full rundown of everything this new feature adds and how to get the most of it, so get ready to build your Guild, and get the gold!

The Basics

What are Guilds?

A Guild is a group of Sea of Thieves players that have united under one banner, like a “club” of sorts. They don’t all play together online at the same time, but instead, each time they sail they will earn progression and rewards for the WHOLE group, and they can see what other members of the group have done lately, among other perks.

What’s the point?

Creating a Guild, or joining your friends’ Guilds, lets players work together as a larger group and earn exclusive rewards. It also creates a larger social bond between players, and presents new roleplaying opportunities.

What are the limitations?

Players can create their own Guilds, or they can join others, but they can only be a member of up to 3 Guilds at a time. Each Guild can only have a maximum of 24 players in it.

The owner of a Guild can manage who is invited to the guild and add/remove members, and even give management privileges to other members of the Guild (these are called Guild Leaders). The Guild Owner also manages the Guild’s customization options, such as their motto, their logo, and their colors (more on this later!).

Creating a Guild

Some players will only want to join Guilds that other players have made, which any player can do and is as easy as accepting an invite.

But if you wish to create a brand new Guild and be its Guild Owner, you have to first be a Captain, as you cannot create a Guild without pledging one of your Captained Ships to the Guild (more on Pledging Ships below).

From the Main Menu there is a new Guilds section where you can start the process of creating a Guild. Through these menus, you will choose a Title, Iconography, color scheme, and motto for the Guild. These let you represent your Guild’s personality and mission statement! You can change these later from the Guilds menu as long as you are the Guild Owner.

Pledging a Ship to a Guild

During the process of creating a Guild, or at any time during your membership with a Guild, you can pledge one of your captained Ships. This moves that ship away from the My Ships menu and to the Guilds menu on the main screen, but don’t worry, you are still the ship’s owner!

Pledging a ship means that all progress made on that ship will contribute to the Guild’s progress as well. Once this is done, you have the option of sharing your ship and allowing other members of the Guild to sail upon it (earning you Ship Milestones even when you aren’t the one sailing it!), or you can continue to keep it private. Sharing ships is a fun way to see how your friends decorate their own vessels!

Once your Guild is created, you can manage it from the Guilds menu. You’re able to tweak the branding at any time, as well as manage the “permissions” of each member of the Guild. Only the Guild Owner has all the permissions, but some members can be made “Guild Leaders” and have permission to invite more members. A Guild Owner also has the option to transfer that ownership to another player and give up control of the Guild. Now you’ll want to Invite players to the guild!

Guild Invites

From the Guilds Menu or from the Pirate Log in-game, Guild Owners or Leaders can see the option to invite other players to a Guild. Reminder- Guilds can only have a maximum of 24 members!

Invitations can be found in the Guild Invites section of the Guilds page of the Main Menu. Reminder- players can only be members of up to 3 Guilds at a time!

Pirates can even invite other players directly in game using the Guild Invite Emote. This sees your pirate presenting a scroll to the other player, which they can interact with to join your guild if there’s an open spot and they haven’t joined 3 Guilds already.

Invites only last 7 days before expiring, and a player can only access their 20 most recent invites.

Guild Chronicles

A unique new social feature to Guilds is the Guild Chronicles. Other members of the Guild may sail while you are offline, and the Chronicles allows you to check in on what happened while you were away. From here you can see when new Members join or new ships are pledged, as well as when members of the Guild sail and earn treasure and rewards for the Guild. You can also check the Ship Chronicles on each captained Ship to see all the escapades of that one vessel.

Reputation and Distinctions

Once part of a Guild, each time you choose to Sail for that Guild you will earn Reputation for the Guild on top of the normal pirate exclusive progression that you’re used to. Handing in treasure to Trading Companies and earning Allegiance from Hourglass Battles will contribute to your Guild’s Reputation, unlocking exclusive Guild rewards along the way.

There’s even the exclusive Guild Role Outfits to unlock, which let players roleplay as different members of the crew from the helmsman to the cook!

As your Guild earns Reputation levels, it can also earn a Distinction each time it reaches level 100. Upon doing so, your Guild’s Reputation will reset back to level 1, but the Distinction level will go up. There are a total of 10 Distinctions to earn, allowing the Guild to go through the Reputation progression 10 times and earn unique rewards for doing so.

Guild Emissaries

Once a Guild has reached Reputation level 15, it will automatically unlock the ability for crews to sail as Guild Emissaries. To raise the Guild Emissary flag, vote on the new table by the Sovereigns tent on the outpost.

Like with Trading Company emissaries, being a Guild Emissary allows a crew to rack up a multiplier on their treasures. You can even sell other kinds of Emissary Flags to the Sovereigns while you’re a Guild Emissary.

As you play as a Guild Emissary, you can earn Emissary Grade, which goes from Level 1 to Level 5, with each level increasing your multiplier. This multiplier is applied to any treasure you sell to the Sovereigns. The multiplier isn’t quite as powerful as the usual Trading Company Emissary Grades because this multiplier applies to ALL treasures, not just the treasures for one specific company.

BE WARNED- Once you reach Guild Emissary Grade 5, your ship will become marked on the map table for all crews to see!

Emissary Ledger

Like other trading company Emissaries, the treasure you earn as a Guild Emissary will contribute to the Guild Emissary Ledger. This is a global leaderboard with 4 tiers ranking all Guilds and their emissary treasure totals. Of course just like other companies, there’s unlockable rewards for reaching the highest tiers of the Ledger!

That’s all there is to it, now go do it! Guilds are a fantastic way for players to interact with their friends in Sea of Thieves and even meet new ones. Let us know on Twitter/X @GoldenSandsBlog what your Guilds are up to!
