Sea of Thieves is always adding new cosmetics to earn or purchase, and here’s your breakdown of what’s new in “The Fort of the Damned” (Update 2.0.8), released on October 16th, 2019. There are new cosmetic items in the regular Outpost Shops, Duke’s Black Market, the Pirate Emporium, and even some already in your personal inventory!

Outpost Shops

The regular shops in the game have seen some permanent new additions!

Feminine Clothing

A long requested addition, the Clothing Shops of the game have been updated with a range of new feminine clothing items (six new Skirts at 2,160 Gold each, three new Shirts at 2,700 Gold each, and seven new Dresses at 5,400 Gold each) to give pirates more outfit options.

Banjos!

The long requested fourth instrument has arrived, and of course that means cosmetic skins to buy for it! There are 19 skins available in the Equipment shops, and they range in price from 3,500 Gold to 10,050 Gold. Some require certain commendations to unlock, and some require a certain level in a Trading company.

Hair Dyes

5 new colors of exotic Hair Dye have been added to the regular Clothing Shops! Each of these costs 1,995 Gold:
Cerulean Blue, Emerald Green, Cherry Pink, Amethyst Angel, Pink Blush

In addition, there’s a selection of fifteen new “Two-Tone Hair Dyes”, exclusively for Pirate Legends in the Pirate Legend Tavern, for 19,950 gold each.

Hunter Ship

At any Shipwright shop, you can now purchase the Hunter Cannons, Capstan, and Wheel, for 49,000 Gold each. The set’s fully complete now!

Underwear Update!

In addition to all the new shop items available, Rare has also given away a new cosmetic feature totally free, and it’s already in your clothing chest: Underwear Dyes! There are now 8 color-dyes that you can use to change the default underwear that your pirate equips when you don’t give them any clothing to cover up with.

Fort of the Damned Rewards

Some seasonal cosmetics allow us to dress up as our favorite ghostly Ferryman, though some require commendations from the Fort of the Damned event! However, none of these items are Time Limited additions.

Eyepatch of the Damned (22,875)
Beard of the Damned (1,125 Gold)
Hair of the Damned (1,125 Gold)
Facepaint of the Damned- requires ‘Summoning of the Damned’
Lantern of the Damned- requires ‘A Spectrum of Shadow’
Jacket of the Damned- requires ‘Banishing the Damned’

These three required commendations are part of the new Fort of the Damned event, which you can find a guide to here!

Duke’s Black Market

Duke the Bilge Rat has set up the Black Market, a place to purchase cosmetics new and old which you can access by talking to him in any of the game’s Taverns (where you first spawn in). Duke’s cosmetic inventory comes in two varieties: New items or variations on past limited time items (for Doubloons), and variations on existing shop items (for Gold).

Doubloons

Bilge Rat Doubloons are a special currency in Sea of Thieves which can only be spent in Duke’s shop. They allow you to purchase some of his cosmetics, bags of regular gold, and even “Letters of Recommendation” which increase your Reputation one level in any of the five trading companies.

You can earn Doubloons by completing challenges or “commendations” from events in game. Here’s a collection of guides on previous events and which rewards you can still earn.

From October 16th to November 20th, the Black Market contains:

Ritual Skull Stashes

In both the Desirables for Doubloons and Goodies for Gold tabs, there is a new voyage type that can be purchased called a Ritual Skull Stash. This voyage leads you to dig up a Ritual Skull on the outpost, as a means to quickly get a Ritual Skull with minimal effort or threats. Ritual Skulls are used in the Fort of the Damned activation process, and since this voyage is the easiest way to get one, they are quite steep: either 30 Doubloons or 35,000 Gold. This is an expensive shortcut option, but there are other free ways to get Ritual Skulls.

The Pirate Emporium

This shop is the game’s Post-Launch Monetization. The Pirate Emporium allows you to purchase exclusive cosmetic-only items, including Pets, new Emotes, and ship cosmetic sets based on other popular video games. Everything in the Pirate Emporium costs Ancient Coins to purchase, which are a new premium currency.

Ancient Coins

Ancient Coins can be acquired in two ways:

  1. Purchased using real world currency from the Emporium menu:
Prices above in American Dollars, rates will vary in other regions

2. Earned by defeating the rare “Ancient Skeleton” found in game. This skeleton has a small chance of rising from the ground in both Adventure and Arena mode, and will immediately turn and run away. After some time it will return to the Earth and you’ll have missed out- but if you manage to kill it before then you receive a random amount of Ancient Coins (roughly 100 all the way to 600 Ancient Coins!)

How to Access the Emporium

There are two places to access the Pirate Emporium shop. First, from the front end “main menu”, you’ll see the shop in the upper right hand corner. Additionally, you can enter the physical shop itself and buy everything it offers while in game in Adventure mode: just look out for the outpost flags depicting ancient coins and go up the stairs above any Order of Souls booth.

Pets

The Pirate Emporium is the only place to purchase your piratey animal companions. A separate tab in the shop lets you access the Pet options, which currently include Monkeys (Capuchins and Barbaries) and Parrots (Macaws and Parakeets), each in a variety of colors. Once you purchase a pet you can access and purchase from a selection of outfits for them as well.

All Pets (499 AC)
Pet Outfits (249 AC)

Limited Time Pets and Bundles:
Skeleton Marmoset (499 AC)
Skeleton Cockatoo (499 AC)
Just in time for the Halloween season, two limited time pet options are here to give us some more… eerie options. These cursed companions are flesh-impaired, for the more macabre marauders to purchase.

Once purchased, you can access your pet from the new “Pet Chest” found on the ship as well as outside the Emporium shop. From there you can select one pet, select their outfit, and input a name for your Pet (which can be changed as many times as you want!). Once you do this the pet will wander around the ship and follow you to shore, sharing in your adventure like a member of your crew!

SHIPS

The Emporium is home to exclusive Ship cosmetics based on Rare’s “heritage”, with exciting tributes to gaming franchises of the past. This month adds the “Cutthroat Set” in tribute to Killer Instinct, while returning the “Bear & Bird Set” that is based on Banjo-Kazooie.
