Cursed Crews continues for its second and final week, and with it comes some much needed bug fixes and Quality of Life improvements for the Barrels 2.0 system. You can find the full patch notes here, and watch Executive Producer Joe Neate’s Developer Update below:
Gameplay Additions
While the majority of the update are tweaks to systems introduced last week, there is one interesting new gameplay feature. Players now have the ability to pass held items to each other, like they’ve been able to with resources in the past. This excludes Gun Powder Barrels and Chests of Grogs, which already have secondary functions. For all other items, you’ll no longer have to drop them to the ground in order to pass them to your teammate!
Cosmetics and Collectibles
As Cursed Crews continues, the Wailing Barnacle weapon set remains available as a limited time option for just one more week. But very interestingly, this will be the first Bilge Rat Adventure whose Doubloons are earnable after the event ends. The commendations and titles, which have historically remained persistent post-event, will also reward Doubloons. So make sure to pick up the Wailing Barnacle cosmetics, but don’t stress too much about the tough legendary tier commendations if you can’t finish them in the next week!
Tweaks, Fixes, and Known Issues
The main draw of this week’s update is in this category. Patch 1.2.4 brought with it a nasty collection of mild to serious bugs, as well as introducing a divisive overhaul to the resource storage system, with the promise that improvements were soon to follow. 1.2.5 aims to address all of that.
For Barrels 2.0, the new resource system, players had a myriad of complaints regarding its ease of usability and convenience. This week brings the first in a lengthy list of upcoming changes. First, empty barrels now give indication that they’re empty before opening the resource menu, and balance has been tweaked to decrease the number of empty barrels in the world, especially around outposts. Also, the Resources and Equipment tabs’ positions on the utility menu have been swapped, so that pressing the menu button brings you immediately to the resources tab. Finally, while entered into the barrel UI, you can no longer be kicked out of the menu by the swaying movement of the ship.
The bigger changes, namely a Take All/Store All system and a quick select option for cannonball types, have not yet made it into the game, but Joe Neate assures us they are coming.
As for bugs, most of the major ones from last week have been addressed. Athena’s voyages, starving pigs that cannot be fed, the comical telescope animation, washed up Bounty skulls that could not be picked up, and the incorrectly displaying colors on the Hunter clothing have ALL been fixed.
As for known issues, Gold Skeletons remain immune to our buckets of water, as they were last week. Leading them to a pool or ocean of water will still rust them, however. Also, merchant alliance crates which sink with a ship will not float to the surface.
Further fixes and barrel UI improvements are likely to come next week, which will be a break week before the Forsaken Shores launches on September 19th.
