Goldfinch Community launches Flight Academy: a program for Backers to learn and teach about global debt capital markets
The Goldfinch community is excited to announce the launch of the Goldfinch Flight Academy! The Flight Academy is a program for the Backer community to teach and learn from one another. It will last about 6 weeks, and will include educational content, token rewards, and various special awards.
The goal of the Academy is to a) provide the community with basic vocabulary and tools to start evaluating debt deals and b) establish norms that will help the community develop over time.
What is a Backer?
Backers are extremely important for the Goldfinch protocol because they essentially decide how capital from the protocol gets allocated. When Borrowers bring new debt deals to the protocol, Backers are the ones who evaluate the information that Borrowers provide. The Backers choose whether they want to directly supply “first-loss” or “junior-tranche” capital to the Borrower Pools.
Flight Academy Overview
The Flight Academy will get started on September 20th and will focus mainly on providing participants with a basic toolbox for evaluating debt capital markets deals. Below is an overview of the Academy’s curriculum:
- Module 1, Flight Basics — Introduction to the Goldfinch Protocol and the Backer Role
- Module 2, Flight Training — Due Diligence Part I: Team, Product, and Macro Factors
- Module 3, Flight Training — Due Diligence Part II: Financials and Portfolio Analysis
- Module 4, Flight Training — Deal Structuring: Terms Sheets and Loan Agreements
- Module 5, Test Flight — Completing Your Own Practice Analysis
The program will also offer participants the opportunity to engage in other activities. Community participation in the core curriculum and other activities will help to build the foundation for a healthy Backer community.
Backer Allocation
Up to 3% of the total token supply will be allocated to Flight Academy participants over the life of the program, which may run several times. As Backers complete different assignments during the program, they will be able to earn governance token rewards based on the quality and depth of their participation.
At the completion of the first iteration of the program, the Goldfinch community also anticipates offering rewards such as special Discord roles to top performers.
How to Participate
Anyone can join the Flight Academy! However, token allocations are limited to only non-US persons and US accredited investors. Getting involved in the program is simple:

- Click the bird emoji to unlock additional Discord channels.
The 1st Flight academy module will be shared on Discord on Monday, September 20th. Ideally, the above steps should be completed before the start of the program. The Goldfinch community hopes to see you there!
