Our 30 days of spooky stories on death and superstition

Tonight is a very special full moon, the harvest moon, which also happens to be Mid-Autumn Festival (aka Chinese Thanksgiving, read all about it), which marks the autumn equinox and the time of year where we morph into the spookiest versions of our bad selves. So, without further ado, I’d like to welcome you to 30 Days of Spooky with Goldthread: On Death and Superstition.

Following the cycle of the moon, from tonight’s full moon to the next full moon (September 24 to October 23), we’ll be publishing one exclusive spooky story a day on Instagram Stories at @goldthread2. Things you can look forward to: elaborate mooncakes, ghosts of Hong Kong, Chinese vampires, pet funerals, the origins of superstitious numbers, and much more. Be on the lookout for a new spooky video series and articles on our other platforms too.

Come be a part of spooky month

We’re looking for spooky stories, from pitches to conversations. So if you’re down to write or to video chat with us on Google Hangouts, we’d like to crowdsource some of the storytelling to you. How exactly will this work?

Pitch a spooky story: If you’re a writer and have a death and/or superstition story you’d like published during our spooky month, drop us a line at hello@goldthread2.com with SPOOKY STORY in the subject.

Be in a video: These are some topics we’d like to get more voices to contribute to so write to me (Dolly) at dolly.li@scmp.com with SPOOKY VIDEO in the subject line if you’re down to chat.

  • What do you know about Chinese people’s fear of the number 4?
  • Are ancestors ghosts and if they are, do you believe in ghosts?
  • Help us figure out what feng shui is, once and for all.

Join our new Facebook private group: Be a part of the free-flowing conversations and memes at GT’s infite scroll, a safe space to shake out all the ghosts and skeletons that haunt you.

Tag us: See something spooky that you think we’d love? Tag us @goldthread2 and make sure to include #spookygt.

Last but not least, as we enter the first days of autumn and the spookiest time of the year, we’ve shed our baby skin for a new, darker look over on our website. Check it out and play around at goldthread2.com.

And don’t forget to look for the full moon tonight wherever you are in the world.
