Skin care is both a lifelong passion and a business for Penny Ogle, owner and esthetician at Penny’s From Heaven Spa in Rainsville. Penny’s From Heaven is a full service day spa, a place that you can go to get away and relax, offering skin care, health & wellness, massages, and more. In their gift shop you can pick up jewelry, cosmetics, accessories, candles, gourmet foods and custom items such as embroidery and vinyl. Penny’s From Heaven offers services and products for anyone and everyone . They offer a quite popular Men’s Skin Fitness Facial as well as massages designed specifically for athletes and athletic injuries. According to Penny:

“The biggest organ is the skin; we all have it, men and women, young and old, and we all should care for it”

Penny has been involved in skin care since the 80’s, when she went with a friend to a Spa expo in Tennessee. She at once fell in love with the idea of running a spa and began working on education and an apprenticeship to make it happen.

“I have always had a passion for skin care, but becoming an esthetician wasn’t really a career path when I was in school, but once I was exposed to it, I fell in love.”

As Penny began preparations to open her own spa, she began asking friends and family members for suggestions on a name. Her aunt suggested Penny’s From Heaven as a play on the song, and Penny immediately latched onto the idea, as the ability to open a business doing what she loves in the area where she grew up was undoubtedly a blessing. Penny opened Penny’s From Heaven Spa in 2000, and soon outgrew three different locations before having the opportunity to open up her current location, a 1940’s home known as The Lingerfelt home on Highway 35 in Rainsville. At the spa, Penny employs herself, Debra Landress, a Licensed Massage Therapist , and Megan Staggs as Spa Manager.

“As a small business owner, I’m everything from the esthetician, to the bookkeeper, to the plumber. You have to be able to juggle multiple hats to keep it going.”

When Penny is away from her business, her love of beauty and art extends to her hobbies. She enjoys painting (anything from a fence, to a door, to pieces of furniture), decorating, and arts and crafts. She is a member of Fyffe Church of God and is involved with the Chamber of Commerce and working with other small businesses. She attended Fyffe High School, then NACC, Samford University, and Mississippi University for Women before returning to the area to pursue her dream of opening a spa. She has been married to James Ogle Sr. for 19 years, and their blended family includes 4 children and 3 grandchildren.

For Penny, small business is all about the connections you make, both with other local business owners and with customers.

“Running a small business, I have developed incredible lifelong relationships. You really appreciate home and appreciate the relationships. You develop a bond with folks and loyalty to each other. They could go and get things in other places, but it means a lot for them to come here, and for them to do all they do for me.”

Our area has a thriving small business community, and a lot to offer. People come from far and wide not just to experience the natural beauty that we are blessed with, but also to experience the unique small businesses and the great service that comes with frequenting them.

“I have folks that come from all over the country to Rainsville, they say that we have some of the neatest things, and I think a lot of people here take it for granted. You can get out and walk through Rainsville, and you’ll be surprised at the businesses you had no idea existed and the stories behind them.”

For Penny, keeping this small town, small business community alive and thriving is one of the most important reasons to make a commitment to shopping locally.

“Our area is a small area, but shopping local, you will not only benefit the economy, but keep that connection with each other, and help keep a small community alive and thriving. You’ll be surprised if you make the commitment to shopping local. You can go into any store and find something you had no idea you could get right here in your backyard.”
