Letter #9: What we’re reading and thinking about at Nuclei
#Banking #ConsumerBehaviour
- With internet and mobile becoming ubiquitous, smartphones will become the main delivery channel for banks. Digital only banks like Chime, rely primarily on their mobile app to, engage deeply with their customers. Such tech banks are changing the banking landscape for good!
Chime also includes a couple of innovative features that help differentiate it from the other mobile banking apps on the market. This includes an automatic savings feature that rounds up purchases to pocket the change; another feature that automatically saves 10 percent of your paycheck into Chime’s savings account; and one that offers a no-fee paycheck advance that makes your money available sooner.

- What’s up danger? Just like vaccines, facing a healthy dose of our fears or things we perceive as dangerous, increases our immunity. It makes us resilient and is good for our mental health. In this article, the author looks at parenting, societal challenges and questions around nuclear energy, through danger’s lens. A very interesting read.
Exposure therapy is a way for highly fearful people, including those who have suffered trauma, to overcome their fears through gradual, low-level exposure to the fearful thing in question — sort of like a vaccine.
#Documentary #Risk
- Free solo. Thrilling. Edge of the seat. Must watch.
Gives us an insight into the mind of an insanely passionate person. Makes us understand why he needs to go after his goals and how he views risk differently than the rest (There might even be a medical explanation for that!)
#Future #Nuclear
- A lot of anathema is attached to nuclear power. With persistent questions around disposal of nuclear waste in addition to recent accidents, backed by powerful photos, public opinion has turned against nuclear energy.
But there are people who have started reimagining nuclear power and are redesigning the nuclear tech, which has the potential to solve the global energy problem for good!
Industrial processes require heat, which is currently being produced by burning coal, oil or natural gas. This accounts for about one-third of total energy usage within the US manufacturing sector.
If this could be replaced with carbon-free nuclear heat, we could hit the carbon problem in a very striking way.
