BMW India have launched the third-generation X3 SUV in the country at a starting price of Rs. 49.99 Lakh. Featuring an updated exterior and a host of new features modeled on the latest gen 5-series, the 2018 X3 is in prime position to take the battle to the Mercedes GLC and the Audi Q3.

While the new X3 largely retains the silhouette of the outgoing model, it is distinguished by a larger front grille, new LED headlamps and redesigned tail lamps that make it look more sporty. The X3 is built on a new platform that improves the stiffness of the chassis while keeping the weight down. In terms of size, the new X3 is slightly longer than the previous version.

For now, the 2018 X3 comes with the same 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine found on the previous model. The engine producing 190hp and 400Nm of torque is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. In the coming months, BMW is likely to bring in a 2.0-litre petrol option in addition to larger 3.0-litre petrol and diesel engines on higher variants.

On the inside, the new X3 gets a number of significant updates similar to those found on the 2017 5-series. New features include a digital instrument cluster, head-up display, touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control and 360-degree cameras.

While the base variant of the new X3, the xDrive 20d Expedition is priced at Rs. 49.99 Lakh, the higher variant, the xDrive 20d Luxury Line starts at Rs. 56.70 Lakh.
