While BMW has been in the news recently for its commitment to localization under the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, what has gone relatively unnoticed is the launch of its facelifted 6 Series, which as a matter of fact, was not a part of the slogan. The entire range of cars, right from the Gran Coupe to the M performance line of the 6 series, feature refreshed looks.

The German luxury carmaker has announced a whole host of updates on the 2015 model. The front of the vehicle will see a new kidney grille, new alloy wheels, revised front bumper housing daytime running lights, new LED multi-beam headlamps and integrated turn indicators on the ORVMs. The rear bumper gets new dual chrome finished trapezoidal exhausts.

The interior updates, in contrast to the exterior ones, are minimalistic but noticeable, with a new heads-up display and dual tone leather upholstery.

Like its predecessor, the upgraded 6-Series is powered by a 3.0 litre, 6 cylinder diesel engine that churns out 313 BHP and 630Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed dual clutch automatic transmission system that helps it go from 0–100 Km/h in 5.4 seconds.

The car comes in two trims, the 640d Eminence and the 640d Pure Design Experience, priced at Rs.1,14,90,000 and Rs.1,21,90,000 respectively, ex-showroom Delhi.

The car is available in 10 colour options, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Cashmere Silver, Glacier Silver, Space Grey, Jatoba, Melbourne Red, Mediterranean Blue and Mineral White.

The M versions of these cars, which also only feature cosmetic changes, derive power from a 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 engine that punches out 560 BHP and 680Nm of torque. The choice of transmission is either a conventional 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M-DCT gearbox which offers sequential style shifting from either the gear lever or paddle shifters. The M6 does 0–100 Km/h in 4.2 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 Km/h.

With this facelift, BMW aims to stay relevant in a market segment that features stiff competition in the form of fellow German car makers, Audi with its A7 and the recently face-lifted RS7 and Mercedes-Benz with its CLS class and the AMG version of the same.
