Chevrolet to shutdown sales in India by end of 2017

General Motors today revealed that it is planning to shut down the Indian sales operations by the end of this year. The company has been reviewing its plans for the country over the last year and has decided to shut down operations due to dwindling sales figures and operational losses.

Chevrolet is closing operations in India

While GM will no longer manufacture cars for the Indian market, the company will continue to manufacture cars at its Talegaon production in Maharashtra for exports to other countries.

Chevrolet India has claimed that the existing owners will be provided with after sales support and other benefits for their cars. Currently the company is chalking out plans with dealerships to come out with a plan to provide service support throughout the country. Also the company’s customer support centre will continue to remain open and will be responsible for taking care of spare parts requirement of the customers. With this, it is not clear whether Chevrolet India will continue with the launch of the new Chevrolet Beat expected in July.

This sad news marks the end of for the Chevrolet brand in India.
