First Tata Harrier rolls out of production line, exterior revealed

Tata Motors’ new flagship SUV, the Harrier, rolled out of the manufacturer’s new assembly line in Pune. This new assembly line has 100 KUKA and ABB robots. It is also 90% automated. It has been built in a time of 6 months. The Harrier is the Tata’s first model using the IMPACT 2.0 design language.

This SUV is built on the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) platform, derived from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. It is also developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover. The company also claims that this structure uses lightweight & high tensile materials for better stiffness and also reduces Noise, Vibration and Harshness.

At the front, it features a V-shaped grille flanked by LED DRL strips, projector headlamps on the dual tone bumper, fog lamps and silver scuff plate. It also comes with dual-tone ORVMs with indicators, shark fin antenna, chrome door handles and silver 5-spoke alloy wheels. The rear end gets wraparound tail lights, roof mounted spoiler and dual-tone bumper with silver inserts. It has also got a sloping roof with blacked out B and C- pillars.

Powering the Harrier will be the 2-litre, 4-cylinder KRYOTEC diesel engine, expected to make 140 PS made by FIAT. A 6-speed MT and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed AT could be the transmission option offered for this SUV.

Tata Motors has started to accept bookings for the Harrier at INR 30,000 with the launched expected in early 2019.
