Hyundai India rolls out 8 millionth car

Hyundai Motor India Limited has achieved a milestone of producing 8 million cars in India t its facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company has achieved this feat within 19 Years and 6 Months. The 8 millionth car was the recently launched 2018 Hyundai Creta.

Hyundai commenced production at the first plant in 1998 with the iconic Santro followed by a second plant in the same vicinity in 2006 with a cumulative production capacity of 700,000 cars per annum for both local and export markets. The road to the 8 millionth car is highlighted in the following table:

Hyundai India’s first batch of export cars was the Santro numbering to just 20 exported to Nepal. Now the total exports by the company have reached 2.7 million cars today with exports to over 88 countries.

Hyundai India currently sells the Eon, Grand i10, Elite i20, i20 Active, Xcent, Verna, Creta, Elantra and the Tucson. Later this year the entry level hatch codenamed Hyundai AH2 (likely to revive the Santro name) followed by more launches including the EV car Hyundai Kona in 2019. Hyundai India is targeting to produce its 10 millionth vehicle in India in the first half of 2021.
