Maruti Suzuki has launched the crossover version of it’s popular Celerio hatchback, the Celerio X. Largely featuring cosmetic changes to the Celerio, the Celerio X ranges from Rs. 4.57 Lakh for the VXi MT variant to Rs. 5.43 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)for the ZXi (O) AMT variant.

Consistent with the cross-over theme, the Celerio X features a new piano black front grille with a honeycomb pattern, side and rear body cladding, roof garnish, rear skid plate details and a blacked out B-pillar. In addition to the standard color options available for the Celerio, the Celerio X comes with a special Paprika Orange option. The interiors have also been refreshed to have an all-black theme with colored accents.

From a performance perspective, Maruti has chosen to retain the Celerio’s engine and transmission. It is powered by a 998cc 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 68hp and 90Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with an AMT option. In terms of safety, the Celerio X will come with driver airbags as standard while passenger airbags and ABS will be available only in the optional variant.

The Celerio X will come up against the Renault Kwid and the Mahindra KUV 100NXT. Maruti will be hopeful that it’s new cross-hatch can replicate the success of the Celerio on which it is based.
