Mercedes-AMG GT R & GT Roadster launched in India
Mercedes-AMG has launched the flagship GT R and the drop-top GT Roadster at a price of Rs. 2.23 crore and Rs. 2.19 crore (ex-showroom, India), respectively.
The AMG GT R, which has set a new lap record of 2min 9.8sec recently for a production-spec at the Buddh International Circuit, is currently the holder of “Fastest rear-wheel-drive car” around the Nürburgring track also known as the Green Hell. It is the on-road version of the Mercedes Nürburgring 24-hour-race-winning GT3.
A heavily redesigned double-wishbone suspension system, developed from the GT3, supports the flagship model. This is also the first Mercedes-AMG model to have rear-wheel steering as well. It is powered by Mercedes-AMG’s 4L, twin-turbo V8 engine (M177) that churns out 585 BHP & 700 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. It offers 3 driving modes — Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus. The company claims that the GT R can do 0–100kph in 3.6secs and the top speed is claimed to be 317kph.
The drop-top GT Roadster is powered by the same 4L, twin-turbo, V8 engine. But this engine makes 469 BHP & 630 Nm of torque. It doesn’t get the rear-wheel steering but is mechanically similar otherwise.
The AMT GT R competes against the Porche 911 Turbo and the Aston Martin’s Vantage C12. The GT Roadster will rival the Porche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet and the Jaguar F-type.
