Dubbed as the world’s cheapest car, TATA Nano was first showcased a decade ago at the 9th Auto Expo in January 2008. Higher upgrading cost to meet the Latest Indian Crash test norms will result in further increase in the price of the low cost car and the sales of the vehicle has been dropping significantly too.

Also, many first-time car buyers are going for the higher models. As a result, the whole entry-level segment is diminishing in India.

Only 65 units of Nano were sold in April-June 2018, against the 872 units sold in previous year during the same time period.

The company has not announced the official date for end of production, but it is expected that the company will discontinue the model by the end of Fiscal year 2018–19.

Two new platforms — ALFA and OMEGA, will be the new platforms for TATA’s future models. These platforms are believed to be carmaker’s strategy to achieve greater benefits.
