Bookings for the much awaited AMT version of the Tata Nexon are officially open. The new transmission will be available on both petrol and diesel variants and represents a major step by Tata to take the fight to the EcoSport and Brezza in a hotly contested segment.

The AMT option will be paired with the petrol and diesel engines only on the top-spec XZA+ variant for now. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine both produce 110hp and come with three drive modes — Eco, Sport and City. Additional features include creep mode for bumper-to-bumper traffic and hill assist.

The only differences between the XZA+ AMT and standard XZA+ variants in terms of the exteriors are the addition of a new dual-tone orange and silver paint option and the AMT badging. Features that include projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 16" alloy wheels, Harman 6.5" touchscreen infotainment system and 60:40 split folding seats also remain unchanged.

Compared to its rivals, the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Brezza, the Nexon offers excellent value for money and is the only one to offer an AMT option on both petrol and diesel variants, making it an extremely attractive proposition.
