Details for the AMT version of the Tata Nexon compact SUV have been revealed ahead of its launch next month. Tata are keen to build on the success of their top selling utility vehicle and the launch of the AMT variant is likely to be a very popular move.

The AMT option will be available for both petrol and diesel models, but only on the top-spec XZA+ variant. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine both produce 110hp and come with three drive modes — Eco, Sport and City. Additional functions include creep mode for bumper-to-bumper traffic and hill assist.

The only differences between the XZA+ AMT and standard XZA+ variants in terms of the exteriors are the addition of a new dual-tone orange and silver paint option and the AMT badging. Features that include projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 16" alloy wheels, Harman 6.5" touchscreen infotainment system and 60:40 split folding seats also remain unchanged.

While the pricing is yet to be confirmed by Tata, the AMT is expected to be priced roughly 50,000- 60,000 rupees higher than the regular top-end variant. Compared to its rivals, the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Brezza, the Nexon offers excellent value for money and is the only one to offer an AMT option on both petrol and diesel variants, making it an extremely attractive proposition.
