According to reports, bookings for the much awaited Toyota Yaris will open in India on April 23. Deliveries for the sedan are expected to commence not long after.

The mid-range sedan from Toyota will be positioned between the Etios and Corolla and will compete with established contenders in the form of the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. With an attractive design and a host of exciting features to boot, Toyota will hope that the Yaris can finally help them get a foothold in the lucrative mid-range sedan segment.

The Yaris will initially be available only in a petrol variant. The car will be powered by a 108hp, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.

Apart from the looks, potential customers will be most looking forward to the features and interiors offered on the Yaris. Toyota have made a significant leap from the Etios and made a conscious effort to provide high quality interiors and features in order to compete with City and Verna. The Yaris will come with a number of segment-first features including roof-mounted rear AC vents, touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, tyre pressure monitoring system, front parking sensors and powered driver’s seat.

The Yaris is decked out with safety features as well including all-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and hill start assist. With such extensive safety features, Toyota will be hoping to woo customers particularly keen on ensuring the safest ride possible.

Considering the fact that Toyota will manufacture the car locally, the Yaris is expected to be priced competitively in the 9–14 lakh range, similar to its rivals. Whether the combination of looks, features and pricing is enough to topple the heavyweights remains to be seen. Stay tuned to CarPal for the official prices and request a booking!
