Quick on the heels of similar announcements by Ford and Tata, Jeep, Mahindra and Volkswagen have announced their intentions to hike prices across their models from January 2018. Citing economic factors such as rising input and freight costs, the three car manufacturers are revising prices by as much as 4%.

The Jeep Compass that debuted in the country earlier this year has been a runaway success and recently touched the 10,000 sales mark. FCA India are keen to capitalize on this and have announced 2–4% price hikes across all variants, except the base which will remain at Rs. 15.16 Lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra, who have also enjoyed a strong year, are increasing prices by up to 3% across its range of passenger and commercial vehicles. 2018 will be a big year for the Indian car maker as it plans to introduce a facelifted version of its popular XUV500 and also lay the groundwork for its push into the EV space with three high-profile launches planned between 2019 and 2020.

Despite launching two new cars in the Tiguan and Passat in 2017, Volkswagen saw a slight dip in sales volumes towards the end of the year. The German company will hope that the impending price revisions of up to Rs. 20,000 across its product range will not cause its mini-slump to carry over into the new year.

All these announcement further underscore the benefits of buying a car in December; availing year-end bonuses and discounts, avoiding price revisions and skipping long waiting periods in the new year.
