Born & raised in NY, my family comes from a medley of cultures. My granddad came to NY from India in the 40s to study conducting. He broke with tradition to study Western music & live in the US, where he met my grandmother — whose family immigrated to North Dakota from AustroHungry in 1905. My mother was brought up in NY by her AustroHungarian/Russian/Jewish mother. In Greenwich Village she met my dad, who came to NY from postwar UK. Aiming to stay for a year, 55years later, he’s now a NYer too.
