I sat at the bench in awe.

He had the bike disassembled in minutes — the gears a mess on the counter. Cables were loose. The tires were off.

How — the — hell is he gonna get that back together?

Five minutes later, he found the problem, and ten minutes later, he was done. As in all back together.

I love watching people do things that I know in my heart of hearts I can never do.

This man was like a Cirque de Soleil gymnast to me.

Me: How did you learn how to do that?
Rob: Do what?
Me: Duh — work on bikes like that?

Rob shrugs his shoulders … then as he gets back to work.

Rob: We biked a lot as a kid, and I kept breaking them — so if I wanted to ride, I had to learn to fix them.

He’s in his forties by the way — no internet YouTube. No how-to videos. No instruction manuals.

Genius.

I sat at the bench in awe.
