Impermanence is the Constant

Yet we are not alone

Many spiritual practices include making beautiful mandalas of sand or other materials that are then taken apart or destroyed to remind one of the impermanent nature of all existence. Tibetan and Buddhist monks do this with gorgeous art and gardens. Nothing lasts forever. This is a good lesson to learn and remember when we feel torn about the daily vicissitudes of our lives, whether it be in our relationships, our homes, or who we interact with others in trying to coexist. It is not an easy lesson to learn, nor an easy learning to remember when we need it the most. Like today.

Your little will may not be able to do it alone. It takes Great Determination. Great Determination (Aditthaan) doesn’t mean just you making an effort. It means the whole Universe is behind you and with you — the birds, trees, sky, moon, the Ten Directions. Suddenly you are in alignment with the stars, or the moment. Your body opens and speaks. And you write down what is says. ~ Natalie Goldberg

Thank you Natalie for first pointing me in this direction 14 years ago. Pranaam.
