Yesterday’s Prophet

Listen to the secrets of John,
to him Mother Mary speaks,
whispering words of wisdom,
eight days a week.

He looks into our future
where all you need is love,
though we must come together
with Lucy up above.

If you let her under your skin
you’ll get a ticket to ride
in a yellow submarine
beneath a marmalade sky.

Imagine a long and winding road
through strawberry fields forever,
where newspaper taxis don’t let you down
and sad songs all become better.

In our future where nothing is real,
in yesterday, you should believe.
Get back to where you once belonged
and remember to just let it be.

(All italicized words and phrases — ‘found’
and borrowed from various Beatles’ lyrics)

Inspired by the release of the movie Yesterday this summer, using a big portion of the Beatles’ catalogue, and an anonymous cameo by John Lennon.
