We wanted a tool we’d be stoked to use ourselves. So we made it free for everyone. (Now you have no excuse not to do your accounting. Sorry!)

Good Splits is a streaming royalty calculator for musicians, music creators, and managers. Our trusty little web tool lets collaborators quickly and easily calculate royalties from aggregator services like Tunecore, Discokid, and more. (Check out our full list of user guides here.)

A question we get a lot about Good Splits: Is it really free to use?

You betcha. Good Splits is free of charge. No hidden fees. No inputting your credit card at all, actually.

In the future, we hope to launch a variety of premium upgrades that allow creators to do even more. Some of those tiers will cost money to use. For example, we’re currently building a payment tool that will let users pay directly from the app. Since this requires a lot of security monitoring and customer service, this feature will be available for a small fee.

Other things coming down the road in Good Splits Pro? Additional collaborator logins, PDF reports, multi-file imports and more. Need an enterprise solution for your business? Good Splits Guru includes white labeling, custom integrations, and custom reporting. We’re happy to tell you more about it > yo@goodsplits.app.

But WHY is Good Splits free?

Good Splits was created in 2019 by Jordan Mattison — a music manager who’s been in the Nashville music industry for more than 15 years — and Coalesce, a full-stack digital agency.

We built Good Splits because we feel that more transparency in music is a really good thing.

Music accounting is tricky. Songs have to be distributed to Digital Service Providers (DSPs) like iTunes and Spotify and most musicians rely on aggregator services like Tunecore, AWAL, and Distrokid, to do that work. However, the user who distributed the song receives 100% of earnings of that song and then they are responsible for divvying up the pot to their collaborators (roles like songwriters, publishers, producers, sound engineers, and more).

How do they do this? It depends.

Some hire a business manager to do the math. Some try it themselves in a Google doc. Some put it to the side and never get around to it except once a year (or longer!).

We knew some smart tech and clear design could help people in the business do this faster, which we hope in more creators being paid what they are owed. Plus, when musicians can be more autonomous with their accounting, they can better predict their financial futures and feel more stable and secure in developing new work.

How do I get started?

Sign up and create a free account here. Once you have logged in, start by uploading your sales report (.csv format) from your aggregator service. Then input splits for each collaborator, configure any albums associted with the file, and easily see who is owed what amount for the payment period of your choice — no math required. Here’s our quick start guide.

Happy Calculating!
