A Love Letter to October

The sky bleeds red onto my dress,
And trees shed with a surety to be born again.
Crinkled smiles spill evenings into nights,
Every note an eternal infinite high.

Cinnamon twists, ethereal mists,
Promises of forever after a kiss.
A freeze frame of my happiest days,
The harder I grip, the faster it slips away.

Against my skin, the chilly winds brush,
My cheeks flush,
A deep crimson, a blood rush.
And my heart, like a wildfire,
Burns bright when the flames touch.

Apple pies, her gold-ringed eyes,
Folktales of the old and wise,
Messages in bottles that reach the shore,
October always leaves me wanting more.
