‘Alone’ and ‘Lonely’ are two different things. When you are lonely, it means you are longing for someone’s presence. Being alone is a wonderful space. Alone means you have found your company enjoyable. Enjoying your own company is all about finding pleasure, contentment, and fulfillment in spending time alone with yourself.

“Happiness comes from within, and sometimes the best way to find it is to be alone.”

We all have grown up with a mindset that being alone is a set of boredom and it makes you crazy. But actually, being alone is much more fun than how it was described. Enjoying your own company is the ability to be comfortable, happy, and at peace when you are by yourself, without feeling a need for external companionship.

Let’s get out of this misconception that we always need someone by our side to be content and being alone brings discomfort.

We are always busy doing something. Either we will be found scrolling social media, or, work, or, studies, or, anything else. In this busy schedule, we have absolutely forgotten our value; we don’t give value to ourselves. So now being alone for some time, feels like having trauma, we start thinking about traumatic experiences and feel anxiety. And because of that enjoying own company is underrated.

Here in this article, we will be covering 5 tips for How To Enjoy Your Company:

1. Find ‘Your Happiness’:

‘Your happiness’ means enjoying your time doing things that make you feel contented. It can be anything like cooking, singing, dancing, painting, sketching, etc. Do what makes your heart really happy. Do ‘Your Thing’. Spend your time with ‘YOU’. Know yourself.

2. Read:

Reading diverts your mind from stress and work. When you read, you automatically shift to a new world and new stories. You can also read motivation and life coach books. If you don’t have a habit of reading then you can start slow by reading 10 minutes a day then after you can gradually increase to 20 minutes, 30 minutes and in this way build a habit of reading.

I personally am a bookworm, I love reading and collecting books. I always read, every day. But, when I am stressed out, I just leave everything and calm my mind by reading.

3. Write:

“You can make anything by writing”

-C.S. Lewis

Writing gives you clarity about your emotions. I suggest doing a journal. Journaling is a great form of practice for making your day. You can have a journal diary and write everything you feel, and your thoughts at the end of the day before bed. You can also include your goals, plans, a letter to your future self or past, and lessons you learned from past experiences. You can write anything that comes to your mind. Just write.

4. Disconnect From Technology:

We all are in touch with technology and social media. All our work, studies, and entertainment come from technology. Detaching some minutes from technology and social media gives you a space for yourself to do things that you adore. It is good for both physical and mental health. Get a digital detox every day even if it is for a few minutes. You can start slow and make this your daily routine. It is difficult to start but nothing is impossible.

5. Have A Coffee By Yourself:

Go to your favorite or nearby coffee house and grab your favorite coffee. Sit in there for some time. You may feel lonely and judged by others for being alone. But, trust me, once you start getting out by yourself, you won’t crave company. You start loving yourself and enjoy your company.

Remember: The best company you can ever have is your own.

Enjoying your own company and discovering yourself is a skill that can be developed only by you bit by bit. Be patient with yourself, you will soon find yourself being independent day by day. You will have more mental peace and know your good and bad. Just start doing it alone and progress towards enjoying your own company.
