Women’s basketball can get kinda rough
The spirit of the game remains the same with the wonderful athletes who happen to be women shoot a round ball through a hoop.
The women’s 2024 NCAA tournament didn’t disappoint breaking records for scoring, television audience and fan attendance at the games.
Back in the 1930’s the game played by women (girls) was very different.
Most basic, a team on the floor consisted of six players: three women were defensive players forbidden to cross the center line and three were offensive never to venture over half court.
Only two dribbles were allowed before a pass and passes had to be every three seconds.
Two points for every basket with no three points for a longer shot.
These rules encouraged high school and college teams to put the taller, heavy set women on the defensive end and the slighter more athletic women in the offensive skill positions. The defensive players relied on intimidation to help them with their shot blocking and rebounding. Scores were usually low by today’s standards.
