It Doesn’t Cost A Thing To Smile
So this year on Friday, October 6, is World Smile Day. I never heard about it before. I was browsing on the internet when I stumbled upon an article talking about this day. I wondered how this day came to be, so I did a little research.
An American born commercial artist named Harvey Ball, came up with the idea. He became concerned over the years because the smiley face had became too popular and lost its true purpose. In October 1999, World Smile Day became official. He created World Smile Day because he wanted to encourage people to do acts of kindness, as well as to spread happiness through a smile. For those of you who do not know Harvey Ball, he is the creator of the famous smiley face. It turns out that he was hired by an American insurance company, in 1963, to make a smiley face to help boost the morale of their employees. He was paid $45.00 for his creation & he never copywrited the symbol. I guess you can say that his reward was all in the power of a smile.
Make an effort to smile everyday, and if you can’t, smile on Friday.
