7 Mindsets for Success, Happiness, and Fulfillment by Swami Mukundananda

1. Moral Principles

Success in life isn’t just about making money or achieving fame; it’s more about being a good person with strong moral principles. Being kind, honest, and fair are examples of these principles. When we live by these standards, we improve our lives and the lives of those around us. So, true success comes from adhering to moral principles and keeping our thoughts and actions pure, leading to genuine happiness and a positive impact on the world.

I changed my mind about adding sponsorships to my blog after reading a cooking blogger’s article. She doesn’t do sponsorships to keep her blog genuine for her readers. This made me think about how chasing money might hurt my blog’s quality. I’ve also been disappointed by products that were promoted by others. Influenced by her, I’ve decided not to do sponsorships to keep my blog true and trustworthy.

2. Internal Happiness

The happiness we look for in life doesn’t come from things outside of us like money, success, or other people. Instead, it’s something that we find inside ourselves. When we make our minds and hearts pure by being good and honest, we can feel truly happy. This kind of happiness lasts because it doesn’t depend on what’s happening around us. So, to be really happy, we need to focus on being the best version of ourselves, not on getting more stuff or approval from others.

My friend shared a story about when her family went out for lunch. Her mother ordered a seafood dish. However, after finishing the meal and seeing the high cost on the bill, her mother regretted her decision. She felt guilty for spending so much on a single meal.

This story illustrates how things we think will make us happy can lead to feelings of guilt or regret, particularly when we face the consequences, such as cost, afterwards. It serves as a reminder that happiness derived from external sources, like a special meal, can be fleeting and complex.

3. Effort Appreciation

Focusing on the work you do, not just the final success, helps you enjoy learning and improving. This way, you worry less about winning or losing and more about getting better step by step. Appreciating your own effort makes challenges easier to face and keeps you going, finding joy in growing and trying hard, not just in reaching goals.

When I was very young, there was an incident I’ll always remember. My sister decided to make a sweet treat, but to be honest, it didn’t turn out as delicious as she hoped. However, our dad, in his kindness and generosity, praised her cooking skills and finished the sweet she had made. Despite its taste, his appreciation for her effort left a lasting impression on me. This memory serves as a reminder of how important it is to value the effort and love behind actions, rather than just the end result.

4. Faith Journey

As we learn about God-His qualities and kindness-we tend to grow to love Him naturally. This love comes from recognizing His power, compassion, and influence in our lives. It’s not just about knowing about Him; it’s about feeling a deep connection and admiration for who He is and what He does. This journey of learning leads us to develop a genuine affection for God, strengthening our spiritual connection and devotion.

My mother recently shared a spiritual experience with me. She asked God if He heard her prayers, and requested a sign in her dream to confirm it. Surprisingly, she dreamt of nine divine women representing Navadurgas (9 forms of Goddess), which brought her immense happiness. This experience reassured her that her prayers were indeed heard by God. It beautifully illustrates the belief in divine communication and underscores the importance of patience and faith in one’s spiritual journey.

5. Self-control Challenges

Many personal and social problems stem from people’s struggle to control their impulses and actions. This lack of self-control leads to issues such as addiction, unhealthy relationships, financial troubles, and even criminal behavior. Additionally, societal challenges like violence and discrimination can also be worsened by this difficulty in regulating behavior. By improving self-discipline and learning to manage impulses better, individuals can address these problems and lead healthier lives, ultimately contributing to a better society.

I had a childhood friend whose father struggled with alcoholism. This led to my friend dropping out of school early due to neglect. Sadly, as my friend grew up, he also developed alcoholism. This shows how personal struggles with self-control, like addiction, can create harmful patterns within families and communities. It highlights how difficulties in controlling impulses contribute to social issues, including addiction and educational neglect, ultimately worsening broader societal challenges.

In conclusion, while I may not profess expertise, the lessons learned from personal experiences have deeply impacted my life. Through self-reflection and growth, I’ve embraced the importance of continuous improvement. These insights have shaped my perspective and inspired a commitment to making positive contributions to the world. Your feedback is always welcome as I continue on this journey of growth and learning.

Your engagement till the end is truly appreciated. Until next time, stay well and keep learning.
