As a female digital nomad, I carry my home in a backpack. It’s not clothes and gadgets; it’s a feeling of belonging wherever I go. Wandering by choice, I embrace the world with curiosity, optimism, and confidence.

Being a brown girl on this journey has its challenges.

I come from a society where I was raised to be super protective, not talk to strangers, dressing a certain way.

As an Indian woman who’s self-employed, the journey is not easy for us. Society often questions my choices, culture, and beliefs.

And one day, I challenged my beliefs, I stepped out of my comfort zone, I wanted to redefine my narrative.

I wanted to break my barriers and experience the world beyond restrictions.

I want to dine with Greek people across the beautiful island. I also want to pray with Buddhist monks in the Himalayas.

I want to sit across the serene beaches of Danang and have my heart broken in Paris.

In the past seven months, I’ve explored six countries, each offering unique experiences. Every place nourished my nomadic soul. I felt a sense of belonging in Bangkok, in Lombok, and in Kuala Lumpur too.

Your body needs food to survive, my soul needed these places to find myself. As Lao Tzu says,

the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

But, I can’t deny the worries that gave me sleepless nights. As a brown girl, I face prejudice and stereotypes in new lands.

The funny part is, it’s not the society, it never was. My mental barriers often hid my capacities, and traveling solo changed my perception.

Amidst the uncertainties, I find strength in my purpose. I decided to live a life with no postal code, with zero stability over my finances or savings. What would the world think?

In each destination, I create a home within myself. My backpack carries memories of laughter, challenges, and triumphs. It holds the essence of my journey, woven into the fabric of my identity.

As I challenge societal norms, I become a voice for others like me. I empower fellow brown kids to explore their dreams unapologetically.

Home is everywhere, and it’s not confined by geography. It’s the strength in my spirit, the wisdom in my heart, and the resilience in my soul.

With my journal and camera as a canvas, I leave an indelible mark. I paint a portrait of a confident girl redefining her story, and navigating her path.

My journey transcends borders, and my dreams know no boundaries.

In the midst of uncertainty, I stand tall, proud of my roots, and unafraid to soar. I am a brown girl challenging society, one step, one country, and one mental barrier at a time.
