Medium Is a Healing Place For Every Writer
How We’re All Healing on Medium
Wait! Am I the only child who thought that my life was a real-life adventure novel?
Born in America, I moved to South Africa at 7, courtesy of my Dad's oil exploitation escapades.
I never knew that this migration was going to have a lasting effect on my life or who I would later become; I didn't even know what the effects were back then.
Growing up in South Africa and only visiting the US as a foreigner is a story I intend to tell another day.
Years later, I found myself in an abusive marriage that lasted two agonizing years.
The good thing is that I came out even stronger, wiser, and with a new vision that helped me chase my dreams.
Today, as an IT entrepreneur, executive Cybersecurity consultant, and Biotech investor.
Currently, I'm leading a team of young scientists on a top-secret mission; just kidding, it's not that secret to merge artificial intelligence, Big data, and Biotechnology with blockchain to tackle genetic disorders and chronic diseases.
Above all that I've achieved today, I'm deeply humbled and happy that I've found a platform like Medium where I can utilize my passion for writing.
At 12, I was already writing. I didn't know what I was writing; my mom would just ask me to write down my thoughts and how I felt about stuff.
So that was how I started scribbling in my diary, jotting down my thoughts and emotions on the pages of the paper. I will write about how greatly I missed America and Aunt Theresa, my nanny.
I felt bad and hated my Dad because of his ambition, we all had to sacrifice just so he could have his way.
I spent most of the time writing about him, America, and my new black friends.
My diary became my sanctuary and my best friend.
Later on, in life, when I lost my Dad and it was just me and Mom, I became established, things started moving on well, and now moving back to America is the last thing on my mind.
I needed a community where I could share my story, connect with fellow writers, and heal.
It took me a while, but I did find Medium, a community where writers can connect, share their experiences, and grow.
Medium is now like a therapy room where I can confront my demons and share my story with others without being judged.
So, with each article I write, I shed a little more weight, freeing myself from the burdens of my past.
On this supportive community, Medium, the claps are a sign of encouragement saying you can do even better. The thought-provoking comments – all are contributing to my healing journey.
What I love most about Medium is that it's a judgment-free zone.
Writers can write and share their vulnerability freely with their readers without experiencing any form of judgment or sentiment.
Unlike other platforms, there are no pretenses and no expectations on Medium– just raw, honest storytelling.
On Medium, every writer has found solace in sharing their experiences, and readers have discovered valuable content with unique voices.
So, if you ask me, I will say Medium has bridged the gap between us and real human stories and has fostered empathy and well as inspired hope.
To every writer who is out there, battered, bruised, or simply seeking a creative platform that will give you a voice– Medium welcomes you.
Share your story on Medium, and watch how it transforms your life.
Medium is truly a healing place for every writer.
