For mother’s day, I visited a chocolate factory/museum in Orlando. It was a fun tour lasting about 45 minutes. It was nothing like Charlie and the chocolate factory; however, I enjoyed the whole experience. At the end of the tour, I got to create my very own chocolate bar.

So the tour consisted of a history on cocoa beans & its transformation into what we know as the delicious chocolate bar. My intentions for writing this post is to share with you some fun facts that I already knew, and what I learned while on the chocolate tour.

Fun Facts

  1. Did you know that money use to grow on trees? The Aztecs believed that cocoa beans was a gift from the gods. At this time, they used the cocoa beans to make a hot or cold spicy chocolate beverage. They loved this beverage so much that they turned the cocoa beans into a form of currency so that they could buy and trade goods.
  2. Before 1847, chocolate was a delicacy consumed in its liquid form only by the elite and royalty.
  3. It takes about 400 cocoa beans to make one pound of chocolate.
  4. White chocolate is not really chocolate! It is only made from a blend of cocoa butter. In order for it to be considered chocolate it has to contain about 17%-20% cocoa liquid or cocoa particles.
